On Monday, almost 50 cow vigilantes attacked Tamil Nadu government officials that were transporting cows from Jaisalmer to their state. The mob pelted stones at the truck on National Highway 15 and blocked the road with suspicion of cattle smuggling.

The police said that four have been arrested and action was taken against seven policemen including an inspector as they neglected the matter and reached late to the site of the incident.

The Animal Husbandry Department officials of Tamil Nadu government purchased 50 cows and calves from Jaisalmer. They were transporting these animals in five trucks with NOC and all required papers and permission from authorities and also the police. This was when the cow vigilantes attacked vehicles.

Speaking to a news agency, the Gagandeep Singla, a senior police officer said that “The accused tried to beat the officials.They also tried to set a truck on fire but police reached the spot and prevented them. The officials, drivers, and cleaners were rescued and taken to local police station. In the meanwhile, several people gathered there and blocked National Highway 15.”

The officials of TN purchased cows of a good quality for the breeding purpose from different places in Jaisalmer. He added, “The accused pelted stones at trucks and damaged one truck. The cows were rescued and taken to a local cow shelter for the time being.”

A case has been registered against the 50 attackers for voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty. Another case was registered for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and another under the National Highway Act.

The police also said that the officials informed the police station immediately and sought help. The policemen, however, reached late. On this dereliction, the SHO of Sadar Police Station and six other policemen were shunted to police lines today.

The SP said that SHO Jairam, Sub Inspector Dhruv Prasad, Assistant Sub Inspector Majid and two head constables and as many head constables were shunted to police lines.
