The police finally took action on Tuesday and arrested Rajiv Mishra the suspended principal of Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College and his wife, in connection with the death of 70 infants in just a week.
The couple were arrested by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police and taken to Gorakhpur.
Earlier a FIR was filed against Rajiv Mishra and six other hospital workers and two from Pushpa Sales Private Limited who was the Oxygen supplying agency for the hospital. The FIR was filed under criminal negligence.
The FIR also points out that Rs. 454 lakhs were given to BRD for this financial year out of which Rs. 63.65 lakhs is for Pushpa Sales Private Limited.
Hence, the personnel arrested from BRD Medical Hospital are being charged for “deliberately not submitting the payment despite repeated written request by the supplier to the principal.”
The case has been registered under different sections of the IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Medical Council Act against Dr. Rajiv Mishra, Dr. Purnima Shukla, Dr. Satish, Dr. Kafeel Khan, Accountant Sudhir Pandey, Assistant Clerk Uday Pratap Sharma of Puspa Sales, Manish Bhandari and Chief Pharmacist Gajanan Jaiswal. The IPC sections are related to culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy.
