Dattatreya Hosabale Becomes New General Secretary Of RSS

On the 20th of March, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) announced it’s new General Secretary. Dattatreya Hosabale, a member of RSS is now the new General Secretary of the RSS. 

The development was updated on the official Twitter handle of the RSS. The tweet read, “73-year-old Bhaiyyaji Joshi became the general secretary in 2009 and completed four terms of three years each.”

Mr. Dattatreya Hosabale replaced Bhaiyyaji Joshi, the four times GS of the Sangh. Bhaiyyaji Joshi was appointed as the GS of the RSS in 2009, completing four terms of three years. However, due to his age and upcoming elections of 2024, this time the RSS decided to appoint a new GS.

Dattatreya Hosabale, 65 years old is from a family of RSS activists in Karnataka. He joined the RSS in 1968 and became a full time organiser in 1978. Later in 2004, he became the second in command of the intellectual wing of the RSS. Before being appointed as the General Secretary, Mr. Hosabale was the Sah Sarakaryavah (Joint General Secretary) of the RSS.

According to the sources, the appointment of Mr. Hosabale was made through elections. The election took place at the two day annual meeting of RSS’s highest decision making body, Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha in Bengaluru.

The announcement was made during the annual conclave of the RSS. Usually, the annual conclave is organised in Nagpur, but due to the rise in the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, it is being held in Bengaluru.
