Delhi man Aftab Poonawala allegedly killed his girlfriend in a gruesome way. The 22 year old Aftab killed his live in partner Shraddha Walkar and cut her into 35 pieces.
The matter came to light six months after the crime, as the police found scattered pieces of Sharddha Walkar in a jungle of Delhi. The police finally arrested Aftab.
The matter was first registered in Vasai Mumbai after Shraddha’s father registered a missing report of his daughter. During the investigation, the Mumbai Police called Aftab for questioning and he said that Shraddha had left their Chhatarpur flat after a quarrel occurred in May 22, and is missing since then. Based on the statements of Sharaddha’s partner Aftab, the police started an investigation and tracked her phone activities. During the investigation, the police found that between the 22nd of May and the 26th of May, Rs. 54,000 had been transferred from Shraddha Walkar’s account to Aftab Poonawala’s account, using the banking app of Sharaddha’s phone. The location of the phone was also said to be Chhatarpur in Mehrauli, near where they used to stay together. This heightened suspicions as Aftab told the police that he was not in touch with her since the 22nd of May. However, he twisted the information discovered and said, he himself did the payments, as he knew the password and bank details of Shraddha.
The police further said, Aftab also paid credit card bills and built a trail of Instagram chats and bank payments to project that Shraddha left the house on her own and was constantly using her phone. However, the trap put Aftab under suspicion and police started investigating him, as the prime suspect. After further investigation, the police also found that Aftab was using Sharaddha’s social media accounts and used to chat with her friends till the 9th of June.
Soon, the Mumbai Police contacted the Delhi Police and finally cracked down on the case, and arrested the accused Aftab Poonawala.
After investigation, Aftab confessed his crime and said, he killed his partner amid a heated argument on the 18th of May. He further said, with the help of his chef’s training at a five-star hotel, he chopped Shraddha’s body into small pieces over the course of days. He allegedly 1 foot long saw to perform the grisly task and then restored the pieces of Shraddha’s body and then scattered these body parts in a wooded area near his house in Chhattarpur Pahadi as well as other places in Mehrauli, including jungles and garbage dumps, over the next few months.
Meanwhile, the police have so far recovered 13 pieces of Sharaddha’s body and an investigation into the matter is underway.
Aftab Poonawala and Shraddha Walker met in 2019 through a dating app and soon came into a relationship. Unhappy with the interfaith relationship, (Hindu Muslim) parents of Shraddha broke all ties with her. Later, in 2022, Aftab and Shraddha even moved in together. According to sources, the brutal murder happened on the 18th of May, ten days after the duo moved in together at a rented flat in Chhatarpur, Delhi.
