The President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) M.K. Stalin took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the 7th of May.

The DMK President M.K. Stalin took the oath along with 33 other Cabinet ministers at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai. His wife, Durga Stalin, son, Udhayanidhi and sister Ms. Kanimozhi were among those present for the event. Due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) the event was a low key affair, with limited people.

According to sources, M.K. Stalin would hold the Home Minister portfolio, the Administrative and the Police Services, the Special Programmes and the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons portfolios.

Other DMK leaders like Duraimurugan would handle the portfolio of Water Resources, K.N. Nehru would be the State Municipal Administration Minister. Tamil Nadu’s new Finance Minister would be Palanivel Thiagarajan, the Public Works Minister would be E.V.L. Velu and the Higher Education Minister would be K.Ponmudi.

Leaders like Geetha Jeevan, P.K. Sekar Babu, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi would handle the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Ministry, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and School Education portfolios, respectively.

In addition, S. Regupathy has been given the Law Ministry, M.R.K. Panneerselvam would be the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister and S. Muthusamy would be the Housing and Urban Development Minister.

The DMK Government also changed the Environment Ministry to the Environment Climate Change Ministry, which would be headed by Siva V. Meyyanathan and the Labour Welfare Ministry to Labour Welfare and Skill Development to be led by C.V. Ganesan.

The Non Residents of India (NRI) Department is now Non Resident Tamils’ Welfare and has been given to Gingee K.S. Masthan. He has also given the Minorities Welfare, Refugees and Evacuees, and the Wakf Board.

The Fisheries Ministry has been renamed Fisheries and Fisherfolk Welfare led by Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, who also got the Animal Husbandry Ministry. Information and Public Relations has become the Information Ministry, and has been given to T. Mano Thangaraj.

The Cabinet Ministry of Tamil Nadu has a blend of both old and new faces. Of the total 33 ministers, only 19 are former ministers including two women. Fifteen people are new faces who have been inducted in the Cabinet Ministry.

The Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office to M.K. Stalin and other ministers.
