After the Telangana Home Minister, Former Health Minister and Telangana Chief Secretary the Telangana Chief Minister also ruled out any possibility of a complete lockdown.
On the 6th of May, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, highlighted points for not imposing a lockdown. He said many people are residing in Telangana for work purposes and would be affected if the State Government imposes lockdown. He said, “If they get dislocated again, it would become difficult to bring them back and this would affect various sectors including the real estate.”
Speaking of the troubles faced by farmers, laborers and of economic difficulties if lockdown comes into force, KCR said, “The farmers were in the midst of selling their agricultural produce in 6,144 villages where centres have been opened. This requires large scale hamali labour as well. There are thousands of laborers who have come from other States and are working at various places like purchasing counters to loading and unloading trucks and different godowns. If the lockdown was imposed the entire economic activity would come to a standstill.”
The statements by KCR came during his first review meeting after recovery from the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. After recovering from the deadly infection, on the 6th of May, KCR returned to Pragati Bhavan and held a review meeting. During the meeting, he emphasized strict measures to contain the virus but was against complete lockdown or weekend lockdown. He said, the State and its people, especially outsourcing employees and workers faced severe problems during the national lockdown. Once again, the situation cannot be the same as it was due to the nation wide lockdown in 2020, during the first wave of COVID-19.
He also said, any such step would also affect the movement of milk, vegetables and other essential commodities. On the top of it the vaccination programme would also be adversely impacted, leading to a major crisis in Telangana. Considering all these factors, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would not impose any lockdown.

An official statement regarding the same was released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on the evening of the 6th of May.
However, in areas where COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly, micro containment zones would be created to check further surge.
Concluding the meeting, CM KCR urged people to cooperate and strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines. He said, everyone should wear face masks, sanitize and maintain 2 feet social distancing.
Speaking about the availability of beds, oxygen, vaccines and Remdesivir drug, KCR said he had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help in augmenting the supply of Remdesivir. He also asked for additional supply of COVID-19 vaccines and oxygen. He complained that the State was not getting oxygen from Sri Perumbadur and Bellary in Karnataka.
KCR also highlighted the need for medical infrastructure and additional supplies as many patients from different cities and states are being airlifted to Hyderabad for treatment. He said, Hyderabad has become the Medical Hub of India.
Meanwhile, in Telangana currently there are 77,000 plus active cases of COVID-19.
