The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
According to the ECI schedule, the voting for the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections would be held on the 10th of May, whereas the counting of votes on the 13th of May.
The term of the 224 seat Karnataka Assembly is till the 24th of May and a total of 5.23 crore electors were eligible to vote for the 2023 elections. Announcing the polls, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said that apart from youth and urban apathy, the commission found “money power” to be a challenge in Karnataka. The CEC added that all those turning 18 years of age till April 1 would be eligible to get enrolled.
The EC also announced by polls for state and the Lok Sabha constituencies, addressing all vacancies till February.
However, the by election for the recently vacated Wayanad seat is yet to be announced. It is to be noted, after the disqualification of Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha member, the MP seat of Wayanad constituency fell vacant.
