On Wednesday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) launched the first ever ‘Pink Toilet’ for the public. The toilet is equipped with a sanitary pad vending machine and an incinerator.

On the International Day of the Girl Child, the SDMC launched the toilet dedicated to women in PVR Vikaspuri market in Southwest Delhi. The toilet has been designed perfectly with an area for mothers to feed their babies.

The Mayor of the SDMC, Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, “The pink toilet is being opened at a place which witnesses substantial footfall, particularly of women and young girls. This will help create a healthy and hygienic environment as well as ensure the safety of women.”

Sehrawat further stated the Government plans to open more of the Pink Toilets in busy areas to give women a safe place to relieve themselves.

He also requested, “I urge users to keep the toilet clean for the next user. PVR, Vikaspuri is a major center for shopping. This will go a long way in instilling a sense of security in women. Besides, all the petrol pumps have also been asked to offer a similar facility.”

The Swachh Bharat Mission is to make a toilet available at every kilometer. The North corporation in Delhi has already set up 50 toilet seats for women among 800 toilet blocks that have been set up over this year.
