Five Special Task Force Personnel Injured In Sukma

On Saturday, five Special Task Force officers were injured in a gunfight with Naxals in Sukma, Chattisgarh. According to the police, the gunbattle started in dense forests and is still underway.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dantewada range) Sundarraj P., told PTI, the firing is underway between a joint team of security forces and ultras in the interior forests of Chintagufa police station area. He added, “As per the preliminary information, five STF jawans have sustained injuries in the encounter.”

The team consists of STF personnel, District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action.) They were heading an anti-Naxa operation in Chintagufa area, around 500 km from Sukma.
The IPS officer said that the team members were on search and cordon mission of a forest patch in the southern part of Chintagufa. This is when they came under fire from a group of Naxals. The security guards responded to the fire, which resulted in the gun battle. Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and was evacuating injured jawans from Sukma.
