In a major boost to the Aviation of Karnataka, Hubballi Airport received an approval for an expansion by the Government of India.

According to sources, the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Home Ministry of India approved the expansion project and sanctioned an amount of Rs. 273 crores.  

Mr. Prahlad Joshi, the Union Minister of Coal in India, tweeted about the approval and sanctioned money.  The tweet read, “I am thankful to PM @NarendraModi ji & Civil Aviation Minister @JM_Scindia ji for approving Rs. 273 crores for expansion of Hubli Airport Terminal. New terminal will be spread over 20,000 sqmt ( Ground+ First Floor) @aaihbxairport.”

In another tweet, Mr. Prahlad Joshi said, “And will be able to handle upto 1400 passengers ( 700 Arrival & 700 Departure) in peak hour. This will be huge boon for North Karnataka passengers. Expansion project is expected to start in January 2024 and is likely to be complete in 2 years.”

It is to be noted, Hubballi is an educational hub with students from all over the country, studying in various institutions.  Currently, the Hubballi airport operates flights to Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru.
