Hyderabad’s AIMIM Makes Debut In Gujarat Municipal Elections, Wins 17 Seats

The Hyderabad based political party, the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) made its debut in Gujarat.

On the 2nd of March, the AIMIM declared victory in the Gujarat Municipal elections and won 17 seats in 3 municipalities.

The Asaduddin Owaisi led AIMIM contested for 24 municipal seats and secured 17.

The final results of the Gujarat Municipal elections were declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) on the evening of the 2nd of March. The three municipalities where the AIMIM won are Modasa, Godhra and Bharuch.

In the two of these three municipalities, the AIMIM was the second largest party with majority seats. First was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) stood at third position.

In the Modasa municipality in Aravalli district, 9 of the 12 candidates of the AIMIM won. In the 44-member Godhra municipality in Panchmahal district, the AIMIM won seven out of the eight seats the party had contested. Ahead of the polls, Owaisi had addressed campaign rallies in Modasa and Godhra towns.

Recently, the AIMIM won seven seats in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The AIMIM is emerging as a strong party and is winning in regions like Bihar, Ahmedabad and Gujarat. Growing strong, the AIMIM is all set to contest the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in 8 phases. The elections would begin from the 27th of March and would continue till the 29th of April.
