India and Vietnam share a long history of friendship and cooperation. Their partnership covers several areas, including trade, defence and cultural ties. Both countries are now looking to strengthen this relationship further.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held high-level meetings with key Vietnamese leaders during his official visit to Hanoi on November 2, 2026.
Doval met Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, to discuss security cooperation. Both sides agreed to expand their existing partnership and exchanged views on regional and global issues.
He also met Foreign Affairs Minister Le Hoai Trung. Their discussions included plans to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
In another meeting, Doval and Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Van Giang, reviewed defence cooperation and agreed to strengthen their work in this area.
The visit comes after both countries upgraded their relationship to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2026. They also set a goal of reaching $25 billion in annual trade by 2030.
