India Home Ministry Sends National Security Guard To Kashmir

The Home Ministry has sent the elite Nation Security Guard (NSG) to train and take action at the Border Security Camp in Srinagar. The NSG is a special forces unit of commandos under the Home Ministry of India.

The NSG clad in their trademark black uniform will perform drills with the other security forces to help build synergy. For the past two weeks, a group of two dozen snipers from the NSG’s House Intervention teams (HIT) have been training.

The Home Ministry plans to position about 100 NSG men at the BSF station. A senior officer reported, “Since they specialize in anti hijack drills, they have been placed near the airport. The deployment of the NSG commandos was approved by the Home Ministry last week. The commandos will be sent on anti terror operations in the valley.

Officials believed the presence of the NSG commandos will reduce casualties among the security forces. Jammu and Kashmir was recently placed under the Governor’s rule after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned.

The Home Ministry explained the NSG snipers have sophisticated equipment that can reduce fatality in the disputed area. The NSG is equipped with sniper rifles, through the wall radars and corner shot assault weapons.

In 2017, a total of 80 security force personnel and 70 civilians were killed in multiple attacks. So far in 2018, 30 security force officers and 35 civilians have lost their lives.
