A woman from Punjab was forcefully sold to a family in Saudi Arabia as domestic help. Following the intervention of the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, she returned back to India on Wednesday.

The woman was allegedly forced to work there as a slave. She was treated badly and tortured.

Eventually, Sukhwant Kaur succeeded in returning back home and reunited with her family.

Kaur told the media at the airport that she had flown to Saudi Arabia from India on a valid visa. When she asked about her wages after working there for a month as a domestic help she was told that she had been sold to the family by an agent.

The Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh deputed the officials in Amritsar to receive Kaur on behalf of the government as she landed at Guru Ram Dass International Airport, Amritsar.

Kaur thanked the Minister Sushma Swaraj and the others who made her return to her homeland.

The Chief Ninister Singh, on Wednesday thanked the External Affairs Minister for facilitating her return.

Mr. Amarinder Singh promised a time bound action plan by the government soon to prevent unscrupulous travel agents from duping innocent people like Kaur.
