India is reporting increased cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 and is on the edge to reach 82,000.

On the 15th of May, India reported a hike of 3,900 cases of the Coronavirus infection in 24 hours.  With this increased cases the number have crossed 81,000 cases, as the tally stood at 81,970 cases.   Out of the total, 51,401 are active cases, 27,919 recovered and 2649 deceased.

The cases were confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 15th of May.  Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister said, ”Our target was to cross 2 million tests by the end of May, but we have done it two weeks ahead of our goal. With 504 laboratories, including 359 government laboratories and 145 private ones, doing Covid-19 tests, we have also crossed the daily capacity of 100,000 tests.”  He further added “The fatality rate is 3.2%, and the recovery rate has further improved to 33.6%, up from 32.83% on Wednesday. There are 3% of active cases in ICUs, of which 0.39% are on ventilators and 2.7% on oxygen support.”

The highest number  of COVID-19 cases is still recorded in Maharashtra, where the infection cases climbed to 27,524.

After Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu is the second Indian state with highest number of COVID-19, which is 9,674, followed by Gujarat (9592,) Delhi (8,470) Rajasthan (4,589,)  Madhya Pradesh (4,426) and Uttar Pradesh (3,664.)

States and Union Territories that have reported more than 1,000 cases are West Bengal (2,377,)  Andhra Pradesh (2,205,) Punjab (1,935) and Telangana (1,414.)

Among other major states and UTs that have reported cases below 1,000  are, Bihar (999,)  Karnataka (987,) Jammu and Kashmir (983,)Haryana (818,) Odisha (624,) Kerala (561,) Chandigarh (191) and Tripura (156.) 

Meanwhile, globally, the Novel Coronavirus infection infected  approximately 4.4 million people and claimed 302,418 lill the 15th of May.
