The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, that is 300 km long has been closed to vehicles owing to the blockade. This blockade was triggered by landslides in Udhampur and Ramban districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing heavy rains which triggered landslides on the highway. Different points at Bali Nallah, Nashri and Panthiyal experienced worst landslides which led to hundreds being stranded.

A traffic police official said, “Due to heavy rains, there were 2-3 landslides on the highway stretch between Ramban and the Panthiyal area.” He added that there were minor landslides near Nashri tunnel in Ramban district and heavy landslides on Highway near Bali Nallah of Udhampur district.

Owing to these landslides, more than 150 vehicles were stranded on the highway at different places. Border Road Organisation’s men have started working on the highway with heavy machinery to help in reopening the highway.

However, the continuous rain in the districts has hampered the task and increasing landslide in the affected areas. Over the last few days, heavy rainfall has led to flood like situation in the state with water logging in the valley.
