Jayalalithaa announce ‘Amma Mobile phones’ in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Another new ‘Amma’ scheme in Tamil Nadu. The state Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is gearing up with a new scheme to support women’s self-help groups.

The Chief Minister on Monday  made the announcement in state assembly about the distribution of Amma mobile phones to trainers of women’s self-help groups.

Jayalalithaa said in the first phase, 20,000 mobile phones at an outlay of Rs.15 crore would be distributed.

She said the women’s self-help group trainers have to keep records of membership subscription, savings, loans and recoveries.

Jayalalithaa said a software in Tamil will be developed enabling to record the above data and a computerized mobile phone will be distributed to the women’s self-help group trainers.

The Amma mobile phone scheme is one among the many of Amma branded schemes that are being implemented in the state. Various other schemes like Amma cement, Amma mineral water, Amma canteen were also being implemented under ‘Amma’s name,
