Jharkhand Assembly Elections – 13 % Voter Turnout Recorded Till 9 AM

The second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections for 20 seats is underway on the 7th of December.  As of 9:00 A.M., 13 % of voters exercised their franchise.

The voting for the second of the five phases began at 7:00 A.M., and will continue till 3:00 P.M.  However, in Jamshedpur (East) and Jamshedpur (West,) the voting will continue till 5:00 P.M.

A total of 260 candidates are contesting the Jharkhand Assembly elections in the second phase, out of which, 29 are women candidates and 73 are independent candidates.

According to sources, 16 out of the 20 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates and one for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates.  The Assembly seats where polling is underway are Baharagora, Ghatsila (ST,) Potka (ST,) Jugsalai (SC,) Jamshedpur (East,) Jamshedpur (West,) Seraikela (ST,) Chaibasa (ST,) Majhgaon (ST,) Jaganathpur (ST,) Manoharpur (ST,) Chakradharpur (ST,) Kharsawan (ST,) Tamar (ST,) Torpa (ST,) Khunti (ST,) Mandar (ST,) Sisai (ST,) Simdega (ST) and Kolebira (ST.)

The Jharkhand Police deployed 42,000 security personnel in all the 20 constituencies spread across 7 districts of Jharkhand.  The Election Commission set up 6,066 polling stations for this phase of the elections.

Vinay Kumar Choubey, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand, assured smooth and impartial voting would be held across the State.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and urged the voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers.

In the second phase, a total of 48,25,038 voters, including 23,93,437 female and 90 third gender voters, are eligible to vote.

The remaining 3 phases of the Jharkhand Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on the 12th of December, the 16th of December and the 20th of December. 

The results of the Jharkhand Assembly elections would be announced on the 23rd of December.
