The alliance of the Indian National Congress (INC,) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won the Jharkhand Assembly elections and marked the majority of 41 seats.

While the JMM secured 30 seats, the INC won 16 seats and the RJD won 1 seat.  On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) independently won 25 seats.

With the results of the Jharkhand Assembly polls in favour of the INC-JMM-RJD alliance, the BJP lost its power in the State.  Raghubar Das, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand and one of the strongest candidates of the BJP, not only lost his position as the CM, but the seat from where he contested as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as well.

The final results after several rounds of counting the votes were announced at 11:00 P.M., on the 23rd of December.

After the victory of the INC-JMM-RJD coalition, Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, is likely to become the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Hemant Soren, who is happy with the results, addressed the media at a press conference and said, “Today, a new chapter will begin for this State. I want to assure everyone that their hopes will not be broken irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and profession.”

Losing the Assembly elections in Jharkhand is another setback for the BJP as the Party lost power in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra as well.

Jharkhand conducted its Assembly elections in 5 phases, starting from the 30th of November till the 20th of December.
