Kathua Rape Case: BCI Rejects Claims Of Threatening Victim’s Lawyer

The Bar Council of India (BCI) rejected claims that the Jammu Bar lawyers threatened the Kathua rape victim’s lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat. The inquiry panel also stated allegations of the police delaying the filing of the charge sheet was false as well.

Vikar Singh a senior Supreme Court lawyer appeared on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association to deny the allegations. Talking to the three judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Singh assured the judges that none of the lawyers threatened Rajawat.

Singh said, “Nobody or no lawyer has threatened the victim’s lawyer, Deepika Singh Rajawat, and or stopped the police from filing the charge sheet against the accused persons in the alleged Kathua rape and murder case.”

CJI Misra said, “We are only concerned with the victim’s families getting justice expeditiously, or, about how the investigation and trial would go on. Let us be clear and focus on investigation and about the trial of the case.”

The Supreme Court will move the hearing of the rape case in case of further problems. The Court said it was focusing on getting justice for the 8 year old girl who was brutally raped and killed in Kathua.
