On May 1st, Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh was killed and decapitated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector. A Muslim couple has offered to adopt his 12 year old daughter, Khushdeep Kaur.

Yunus Khan, an IAS Officer and his wife Anjum Ara, an IPS officer came forward and asked Paramjit’s family if they could take care of the 12 yearold girl.

Anjum Ara spoke to a news channel and said, “Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help.”

Ara is Superintendent of Police of Solan district and Yunus Khan is Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, and are residents of Himachal Pradesh. The husband supported his wife’s comment and explained that it was their duty as citizens of India to ensure the girl got a good education and support.

Paramjit’s brother Ranjit Singh reportedly said, “I simply can’t express gratitude to this kind hearted couple. It reminds me of what the Muslim ruler of Malerkotla, Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan, had done for the youngest sahibzadas (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.”

Ranjit Singh plans to send out an appeal to other officers around the country to take this generous couple as an example and extend their help to families like Paramjit’s.

In a gruesome incident, Paramjit Singh and BSF Head Constable Prem Sagar were killed and mutilated by the Pakistani Army at the LoC.
