Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s residence during the ED searches on Friday evening. Former IT minister and Kavitha’s brother K Taraka Rama Rao entered the residence along with the advocates and argued with the ED authorities.
KTR questioned the authority about the arrest. “ED gave undertaking in SC that it will not arrest Kavitha. This arrest is politically motivated and illegal,” KTR tol ED official Bhanu Priya Meena. A video highlighting the heated argument between KTR and Meena went viral across the social media platforms.
KTR in social media platform X posted, “Abuse of power and institutional misuse to settle political scores is something that has become increasingly common with BJP Govt in last 10 years
ED needs to answer the Supreme Court on the inordinate rush to arrest when the matter is very much sub-judice & up for review in a couple of days, on the 19th March. What’s even more appalling is the ED undermining it’s own undertaking given to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Justice shall prevail and we will continue to fight legally.”
ED opined that the KTR obstructed their duties and mentioned the same in a memo. Kavitha went emotional at the time of arrest and hugged her son. She requested the ED authorities and went to the airport in her own car instead of the police vehicle.
BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao asked the BRS cadre to be patient. He said that ED intentionally arrested Kavitha on Friday so that she may stay in jail for three days.
