Mithun Chakraborty resigns as Rajya Sabha member

Mithun Chakraborty resigned as member of Parliament owing to health issues.

Actor turned politician Mithun Chakraborty, resigned as Rajya Sabha member on Monday. His poor health condition has been cited as the reason behind the resignation. Rajya Sabha Chairman received the resignation from Mithun Chakraborty. The actor who made headlines after being allegedly involved in the Saradha scam last year attended the Rajya Sabha only for three days.

Stating that because of his health conditions he will not further be able to fulfill his duty as a member of the Rajya Sabha and hence renounced the seat. Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien in this regard said, “He resigned from Rajya Sabha on health grounds. We continue to share a warm relationship with him and his family and wish him a speedy recovery.” Chakraborty’s short term as Minister of Parliament was prone to poor attendance. In the three days, he attended he did not participate in any debate or ask a question in the House.

Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in 1976 in “Mrigaya” directed by Mrinal Sen. For this movie he won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He is famous for his disco moves in the Bollywood. In 2014, he was nominated as the member of Rajya Sabha by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
