Overnight rains in Mumbai, on the 26th of July, led to the cancellation of 11 flights and trouble for the residents of Mumbai while travelling in trains.

To control the situation, the Western Naval Command deployed as many as 8 rescue teams in the flooded areas of Mumbai. Besides, 4 additional National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) teams were also sent to several flooded areas for the rescue of people.

On the other hand, more than 2,000 people are stuck in the Mahalaxmi Express, which runs on the Badlapur to Wangai route.

The Divisional Railway Manager of Central Railways informed about the situation to the NDRF team and asked them to rescue the passengers as soon as possible.

The Chief PRO of the Central Railways said, “We request passengers of Mahalaxmi Express not to get down from the train. The train is a safe place. Staff, RPF and City Police is in train to look after you. Please wait for advice from NDRF and other disaster management authorities.”

In addition, the Maharashtra Railways cancelled as many as 7 trains and diverted the routes of 9 trains.

According to K.S. Hosalikar, the Deputy Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD,) Mumbai may witness more rainfall on the 27th of July.

Mr. Hosalikar took to Twitter and said, “Today’s rainfall forecast for 24 hours. Heavy rainfall over Konkan region including Mumbai. Moderate rainfall upto 40 mm in Vidarbha and some parts of Marathwada, South Madhya Mah.”

 The NDRF, the State Disaster Rescue Force and other officials are continuously trying to control the situation. Due to continuous rain for 24 hours, people are suffering due to heavy traffic jams and waterlogging issues in the City.
