On the 1st of July, India is celebrating the National Doctors’ Day. The day is celebrated on the 1st of July, the birth and death anniversary of Dr. B.C. Roy, the great physician of India. 

On this day, India pays tribute to acclaimed physician and former West Bengal Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy on his birth and death anniversary. Dr. B.C. Roy was born on the 1st of July 1882 and passed away on the 1st of July 1962.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister of India, the President of India, the Vice President of India and other Union Ministers extended their gratitude and lauded the work and effort of doctors in India.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said, “We are celebrating National Doctors Day dedicated to the birth anniversary of the nation’s great physician and statesman Dr. B.C. Roy. We are grateful for the contribution of the doctors during Corona times. Without bothering about their own life, our doctors have taken care of us. That’s why National Doctor’s Day becomes even more special.”

Mr. Narendra Modi also shared a clip from the recent recording of his radio Mann Ki Baat. In the small clip, he highlighted the efforts of frontline health workers in tackling the Wuhan virus situation and the second wave in India. He said, “On Doctors Day, my greetings to all doctors. India’s strides in the world of medicine are commendable and have contributed to making our planet healthier. Here is what I said during #MannKiBaat a few days ago.”

Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, also extended greetings on National Doctors’ Day and praised the medical team in India, working tirelessly to control the COVID-19 situation.

In a tweet, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind said, “We are deeply indebted to these selfless angels who have risked their lives to save ours.”

Another such appreciation tweet and greetings were from Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India. He took to his official Twitter handle and said, “On this Doctors’ Day, I salute all members of the medical fraternity for rendering selfless service and working round-the-clock to save others’ lives by risking their own. #DoctorsDay.” In another tweet, he said, “The pandemic has put tremendous stress on our doctors and their families. Let us all follow Covid appropriate behaviour & ease the pressure on the medical fraternity. #DoctorsDay. (sic.)”

In addition, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings on Doctors’ Day. He said, “Being a doctor is a pledge to serve mankind. On National Doctors’ Day, we salute the heroic efforts of our courageous doctors who left no stone unturned to serve humanity irrespective of the odds. Time and again, we have witnessed their selfless efforts towards society.

Leaders like Ajit Pawar, Rahul Gandhi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Dharmendra Pradhan and others also extended their greetings through the micro blogging app, Twitter.

Meanwhile, on this occasion of National Doctors’ Day, PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the medical fraternity and acknowledge their service to humanity. The event organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to honour the doctors of India is scheduled to begin at 3:00 P.M., on the 1st of July, Thursday.

The efforts and services of doctors across India received enormous appreciation and extreme significance during the tough times of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is to be noted, during the second wave of the Wuhan virus, nearly 798 doctors lost their lives.
