Nirbhaya Rape Case Convict Mukesh Singh Moves SC

On the 25th of January, Mukesh Singh, one of the convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case, moved the Supreme Court (SC) by filing a petition challenging President Ram Nath Kovind’s rejection of his plea.

Recently, Ram Nath Kovind rejected a mercy plea filed by Mukesh Singh.

The convict moved the SC after the Patiala House Court of Delhi rejected an application filed by the three other convicts.

In the latest application filed by the three convicts, they alleged the authorities of Tihar Jail of not giving the required documents for filing mercy and curative petitions.

The plea filed by Mukesh Singh read, “In the regular interval, the convicts have requested the concerned authority to supply documents pertaining to their medical records from 2012 to 2015 and from 2019 to 2020, records of cellular confinement, records of the amount earned in prison through labour, records of educational and reformative activities like Tihar Olympics and painting, etc. ”

The four convicts, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Kumar, Pawan Kumar Gupta and Akshay Thakur, are scheduled to be hanged on the 1st of February, 2020, at 6:00 A.M., at Tihar Jail, Delhi.

However, with this latest petition filed by the lawyer of Mukesh Singh, once again, the execution of the Nirbhaya rape case convicts could be delayed.

Stay tuned for further updates.
