Nirmala Sitharaman Announces 3rd Breakdown Of Rs. 20 Lakh Crores Stimulus

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on the 15th of May, announced the 3rd tranche of Rs. 20 lakh crores stimulus package, announced under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

On the 12th of May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Nation and announced the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (self reliance India programme) with a package of Rs. 20 lakh crores.  Under the programme, the Prime Minister said everyone needs to be self reliant and the stimulus package would help the Indian firms, industries and sectors to be self reliant.

Ms. Sitharaman addressed the media and said, “I will be announcing 11 measures today, of which 8 relates to strengthening capacity and infrastructure. The government will allocate money and we can quickly ramp up on these. The rest 3 will pertain to government and administrative reforms.”

The press meet which began at 4:00 P.M., witnessed special measures focussing on the agriculture market, infrastructure and allied activities.

Ms. Raman announced a package of Rs. 1 lakh crores for agriculture infrastructure and farming facilities.  Addressing the media, Ms. Sitharaman said, “”Financing facility of Rs 1,00,000 crore will be provided for funding agriculture infrastructure projects at farm-gate and aggregation points. Impetus for development of farm gate and aggregation point, affordable and financially viable post-harvest management infrastructure.”

In addition, Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs. 10,000 crores scheme for Micro Food Enterprises (MFEs.)

Advantages of the scheme for MFEs are:

  • Scheme would promote the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi  “Vocal for locals with global outreach.”
  • Would help MFEs to build brand and market image with technical upgrade and better facilities for their business.
  • Scheme would help approximately 2 lakh MFEs in India.
  • Scheme would improve health and safety standards, integration with retail markets and enhance the economic income for the MFEs.
  • It would focus on taking advantage of strong production areas of Indian states.

After MFEs, the Finance Minister announced Rs. 20,000 crores for Fishermen under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana

The scheme would help to achieve sustainable, inclusive development of marine and inland fisheries.

Rs. 11,000 crores for activities in marine, inland fisheries and aquaculture.

Rs. 9,000 crore for infrastructure of  Fishing harbours, cold chains, markets and others.

The scheme would also help with additional fish production of 70 lakh tonnes over 5 years.

Employment would increase by 55 lakh people, double exports worth Rs. 1,00,000 crores.

In addition, Rs. 13,323 crores allocated for the National animal disease control programme for foot and mouth disease.  Under this allotment, 100 % vaccination of cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat and pig population are assured.

The Finance Ministry announced Rs. 15,000 crores for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development.

Besides, an amount of Rs. 4,000 crores allocated for Promotion of Herbal Cultivation

Approximately 10,00,000 hectare would be covered under herbal cultivation in the next two years, with Rs. 4,000 crore

The herbal cultivation promotion would lead to an income of Rs. 5,000 crores for farmers.
