Odisha: Man Carries Wife’s Body 10 Km.

Bhubaneshwar: A man in Odisha, walked 10 km., with his dead wife’s body on his shoulders. His weeping 12-year-old daughter by his side, Dana Majhi carried his wife’s body as he had no vehicle to take home the body from a government hospital, which is 60 km from his village. His wife Amang Dei died of tuberculosis at the hospital in Kalahandi on Tuesday night.

Mr. Majhi said, “I told the hospital authorities that I am a poor man and cannot afford a vehicle. I kept requesting them but they said they could not help.”

With this, the television crew immediately called up a senior officer and also arranged an ambulance for the remaining journey to his village.

Kalahandi District Collector Brunda D. said, “As we got to know of the incident, we arranged for an ambulance.” He added that he had also instructed the Administration to help the family with the funeral under a government scheme.
