On Sunday, a 38 year old serial assaulter was arrested by Ashok Nagar Police in New Delhi for the crime of assaulting girls between the years of seven and eleven. Sunil Rastogi, the accused from Uttar Pradesh came to Delhi by train, lured and kidnapped minor girls wandering alone, to under construction buildings, and assaulted them and fled from the city. The accused wore the same set of clothes every time, a red jacket that he considered lucky and a pair of black jeans. Over the last 13 years, the accused has assaulted around 500 girls in UP, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
On 10 and 13 January, according to police reports, three cases of child assault under POCSO were registered in the New Ashok Nagar Police station. The DCP of Delhi Omvir Singh said in a press meet that the accused was a tailor by profession, was married and had children. The police have termed Sunil as a paedophile and nabbed him from his home in UP.

The DCP said, “The accused told police that he used to target minor girls. Whenever he would find any minor girl going to home from school, he used to mislead her on the pretext that her father had sent some clothes or some other articles to give her and take her to an isolated place.” The DCP also added, “During interrogation, he confessed he committed the alleged offences and also revealed he committed similar offences with other girls in New Ashok Nagar, Delhi, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), and Rudrapur (Uttarakhand).” The officer said that a team was already in place from December 13 based on other complaints to identify the paedophile.
Based on the details provided by the minor girls, the police secured the CCTV camera footage where Sunil assaulted the girls. The video had no clarity, hence the police made an in depth interrogation and got a sketch made on the victims and vendors of nearby areas. After a of search of the, the paedophile was arrested on Sunday and placed under strict surveillance.
