PM Modi Announces Lockdown Extension Till 3rd May

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 14th of April, addressed the Nation and announced an extension to the ongoing lockdown till the 3rd of May.

Mr. Modi begin his address to the Nation at 10:00 A.M., and started his speech by applauding the citizens of India for standing strong and following the lockdown guidelines.   He  also extended wishes for festivals like Baisakhi, Bengali New Year and Ambedkar Jayanti.

Mr. Modi highlighted the fact, India is still a better country in terms of managing the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.  Mr. Modi said compared to the other countries, India is still better in terms of handling the Novel Coronavirus cases and curbing the spread.  

Narendra Modi said India followed 3 major things, which helped to keep the numbers less than other countries.

  • Screenings at airports for International passengers
  • 14 day isolation mandatory for the passengers from abroad
  • 21 day lockdown imposed from the 25th of March to 14th of April

Considering these three measures as effective, Narendra Modi announced to extend the lockdown with a few relaxations.   The new guidelines of the newly imposed lockdown would be issued in a couple of days.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered the problems faced by the daily wages labourers and announced relaxation for them and for farmers.  PM Modi also announced relief for farmers ahead of the Rabi crop harvesting season.

Mr. Modi announced the lockdown for the betterment of  Indians and as the only precautionary measure to control the spread of the Novel Coronavirus in India.

Till the 14th of April, India reported 10,541 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 358 deaths.
