Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 25th of August, extended his condolences to the victims of building collapse mishap in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
Mr. Modi said, “Saddened by the building collapse in Mahad, Raigad in Maharashtra. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their dear ones. I pray the injured recover soon. Local authorities and NDRF teams are at the site of the tragedy, providing all possible assistance.”
On the 24th of August, a building collapsed in Raigad area. The incident took place around 6:50 P.M., in Mahad area of Raigad district Mumbai.
Officials of Mumbai who are supervising the time rescue operation said, “Today at about 18: 50 hrs, a ground+four floor building collapsed in Kajalpura area of Mahad Tehsil in District Raigad, Maharashtra. About 50 people are feared to be trapped. Three teams of 5 BN NDRF have moved to the spot with all the necessary equipment.”
Meanwhile, three NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams from Mumbai, are continuing the rescue operation at the location.
So far, one person died, 8 rescued and 19 are said to be missing.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had expressed shock over the incident and assured all possible assistance with the rescue operations.
Mr. Shah took to Twitter and said, “The collapse of a building in Raigad, Maharashtra is very tragic. Have spoken to DG @NDRFHQ to provide all possible assistance, teams are on the way and will be assisting with the rescue operations as soon as possible. Praying for everyone’s safety.”
The rescue operations are underway.
