PM Modi Highlights India’s Clean Energy Advantage

India’s growing use of renewable energy is playing an important role in its energy security. As global tensions affect energy supplies, the country is looking to reduce its dependence on imported fuels and expand cleaner power sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s investments in clean energy over the past decade helped the country manage the impact of the ongoing West Asia crisis. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Monday.

PM Modi said India had already reached nearly 300 GW of non-fossil energy capacity, accounting for more than 50% of its total installed power capacity. He also highlighted the country’s target of reaching 500 GW by 2030.

According to the Prime Minister, more than ₹15 lakh crore has been invested in the clean energy sector over the past decade. He said the sector could attract another ₹20 lakh crore in investment opportunities by 2030.

PM Modi also called for a clean cooking movement to reduce dependence on imported gas. He urged farmers to use solar power and become energy producers, while encouraging wider use of electric vehicles.
