On the 27th of September, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PMDHM) across India.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission, a unique digital health ID would be generated for individuals, containing all their health records.
During the launch event, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “The drive to strengthen the health facilities of the country, in the last 7 years, is entering a new phase today. This is not an ordinary phase. This is an extraordinary phase.”
In addition, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, who attended the event said, “I believe that this will bring a revolutionary change in the health sector.”
The unique health ID would be created with the individual’s Aadhaar Card and registered phone number. All the data recorded by the individual would be safe with a wide range of data, information and infrastructure services. The initiative is also a step aiming for the Digital India, in the health sector, reducing the burden on people like paper records, on spot appointments instead of standing in long queues and developing the healthcare sector with pharmacy, and telemedicines digitally. The digital approach would also ensure privacy and confidentiality of patients and doctors with better digital access.
As of now, nearly 1 lakh unique health ID has been generated. It is to be noted, the PM DHM was launched in its pilot phase across the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
However, now under the Ayushman Bharat, the Digital Health Mission would be widespread across India, providing digital healthcare facilities to the people of the nation.
