PM Modi Reconstitutes Cabinet Committees, Includes New Faces In Sub Committees For Economic, Security And Political Affairs

On the 13th of July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reconstituted the Cabinet committees and inducted new members, who recently got a place in the Union Cabinet expansion.

According to sources, the new members of the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the Cabinet Committee of Political Affairs (CCPA) include new faces along with old members. This time, the PM Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) included members and ministers of the alliance parties of the BJP and ministers belonging to Dalit community and other minorities.

In addition, union ministers like Smriti Irani, Giriraj Singh, Mansukh Mandaviya, Bhupender Yadav and Sarbananda Sonowal are the new additions in the crucial CCPA members.

Meanwhile in the CCEA, the 8 members are:

  1. Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India.
  2. Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India.
  3. Nitin Gadkari, the Road Transport and Highways Minister of India.
  4. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister of India.
  5. Narendra Singh Tomar, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister of India.
  6. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India.
  7. Piyush Goyal, the Commerce and Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles Minister of India.
  8. Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister of India.

The members included in the newly formed CCPA are:

  1. Smriti Irani, the Women and Child Development Minister of India.
  2. Giriraj Singh
  3. Mansukh Madaviya
  4. Bhupendra Yadav, the Labour Minister of India.
  5. Sarbananda Sonowal, the Shipping Minister of India.
  6. Rajnath Singh
  7. Amit Shah
  8. Nitin Gadkari
  9. Nirmala Sitharaman
  10. Narendra Singh Tomar
  11. Piyush Goyal
  12. Pralhad Joshi, the Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Minister of India

The all important Cabinet Committee on Security has been left as it is with Mr. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mr. Rajnath Singh, Mr. S. Jaishankar and Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman.

In addition, the Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth include members like Union minister Narayan Rane, the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Another Committee, the Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skills Development witnessed members including union ministers like G. Kishan Reddy, Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Ramchandra Prasad Singh.

These are sub committees introduced by the Central Government in 2019, within the Union Cabinet. These committees supervise and look after various topics, including the economy, security matters and dates for Parliament sessions.

Meanwhile changes to the Cabinet Committees were made ahead of the Parliament Monsoon session, scheduled to begin from the 19th of July till the 13th of August.
