PM Modi To Launch Maitri Setu, Road Link Between Bangladesh And India With Other Key Projects

On the 9th of March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the long awaited Maitri Setu Bridge, connecting India and Bangladesh.

The launch would be held through video conferencing. The Maitri Setu (bridge) is situated over the Feni River which flows between the Indian boundary in Tripura State and Bangladesh. The name Maitri Setu is a symbol of bilateral relations and friendly ties between India and Bangladesh. The 1.9 kilometres long bridge joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh

The construction of the Maitri Setu was done under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. The project was worth Rs. 133 crores.

With this inauguration, Tripura is set to become the Gateway of North East with access to Chittagong Port of Bangladesh, which is just 80 kilometres from Sabroom.

Besides launching the Maitri Setu, Mr. Modi would also lay the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects in Tripura.

Below are some of the listed projects to be launched by PM Modi:

PM Modi to lay the foundation stone for setting up an integrated check post at Sabroom. The check post would help ease the movement of goods and passengers between the two countries. The project is being constructed by the Land Ports Authority of India at an estimated cost of Rs. 232 crores.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also lay the foundation stone of NH 208 connecting the Unakoti district headquarters at Kailashahar with the Khowai district headquarters. The project would be an alternative route to the NH 44. The 80 kilometres NH 208 project is being done under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited worth Rs. 1,078 crores. 

Mr. Modi would also launch State Highways and other district roads, developed by the Tripura Government with a financial outlay of Rs. 63.75 crores. This would give all weather connectivity to the people of Tripura.

In addition, approximately 40,978 houses would be constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) with a financial outlay of Rs. 813 crores.

Mr. Modi would also inaugurate the Integrated Command and Control Centre built under Agartala Smart City Mission.

He would be laying the foundation stone for the development of the Multi Level Car Parking and Commercial Complex at Old Motor Stand at a cost of about Rs. 200 crores.

In addition, the PM of India would lay the foundation stone for the widening of the existing road from Lichubagan to the airport from two lanes to four lanes with a project cost of Rs. 96 crores.

It is noted, Mr. Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on the 26th of March. He would join the leaders of Bangladesh to join celebrations of the 50th anniversary of its freedom that happened on the 26th of March 1971. PM Narendra Modi has been invited as the Chief Guest for the event.

This would be the first international trip of Mr. Modi in 15 months.
