Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 22nd of September, addressed Indian-Americans at the Sprawling NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The event ‘Howdy, Modi’ (How do you do Modi?) was witnessed by more than 50,000 people in Houston. During the event, Mr. Modi spoke about several issues and his speech won the hearts of many who attended the event.
During his 50 minute long speech, Modi highlighted several topics, such as India’s demography, diversity, democracy, economy, modernisation process, digitisation, strength and many others.
PM Modi also spoke about terrorism and said, “Be it the 9/11 in the United States or 26/11 in Mumbai, where are the conspirators found? Time has come for a decisive battle against terrorism and those who encourage terrorism.”
Moving further, PM Modi also highlighted the recent decision of the Indian Government to scrap Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, a move which revoked the special status Jammu and Kashmir previously enjoyed. He said, “India’s decision on Article 370 has troubled some people, who can’t handle their country, who support terrorism. It is a breeding ground for terrorism. Be it 9/11 attack in USA or 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, the perpetrators of the acts have been found in that one Country.”
Mr. Modi also emphasised on the importance of the mother tongue and said one must always remain connected to their mother tongue. He also showed his confidence in Donald Trump, the President of the U.S., and wished him luck for the upcoming U.S., elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded the event and invited Donald Trump to visit India and strengthen the U.S., and India relationship.
After the ‘Howdy, Modi’ event, Mr. Modi inaugurated the Gujarati Samaj of Houston Event Centre and Shri Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Modi is on a one week trip to the U.S., and is scheduled to attend several bilateral meetings and the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. The 74th UNGA session will begin from the 23rd of September and continue till the 27th of September.
Mr. Modi is also scheduled to meet Donald Trump on the 24th of September and discuss various issues. Modi’s meeting with Trump is scheduled to be held a day after Trump’s meeting with Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Mr. Modi is expected to return to India on the 28th of September.
