Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 1st of March, held a high level meeting with the Union Cabinet ministers and senior officials.  The third meeting in the past 48 hours, was organized to discuss the ongoing Ukraine-Russia invasion crisis. 

During the meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi asked the Indian Air Force (IAF) to deploy C-17 aircraft to rescue Indians stranded in Ukraine, amid the invasion crisis.  He asked the Indian Air Force to join “Operation Ganga” launched to evacuate Indians.

According to sources, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Leveraging the capacities of our Air Force will ensure that more people can be evacuated in a shorter time frame. It will also help deliver humanitarian aid more efficiently.”  As per the directions of the Union Government, the IAF would begin rescue from today, the 1st of March.

Meanwhile, the Air Indian flights landed with 182 Indians on Tuesday and is scheduled to bring back more Indians, in two flights scheduled today later in the day.  In addition, as per Union Government, approximately 20,000 Indians are in Ukraine, of which 8,000 left the nation as per the advisories of the Indian Embassy.
