On the first day of the World Economic Forum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a roundtable meeting in Davos. The Prime Minister conveyed that India meant business to the top CEOs from all over the world.

Ministry of External Affairs in a tweet said, “India’s growth story and presenting exciting opportunities for global business in India.” PM Modi is in Davos for the World Economic Forum for about 24 hours. He held a bilateral meeting with the President of Switzerland Alain Berset. Once the meeting ended the Foreign Ministry said, “Productive discussions on steps to further deepen our bilateral cooperation.”

 

PM Modi held a two hour meeting with 40 global industry heads from 18 countries. Satya Nadella from Microsoft, Mukesh Ambani from Reliance and CEO Dirk Hoke from Airbus were some of the prominent leaders present. Modi gave all the leaders the opportunity to raise concerns and present valuable suggestions.

Shah Rukh Khan, Hollywood Actress Cate Blanchett and music legend Elton John were awarded the 24th Annual Crystal Award on Monday. For Khan’s acceptance speech he said, “Power needs a reversal more than anything in the world.” The Bollywood star added that these awards honor, “artists who have shown exemplary commitment to improving the state of the world.”

The World Economic Forum (WEF) released the yearly index before starting their annual meeting. It showed Norway as the world’s most inclusive advance economy like last year. Lithuania also topped the list of the emerging economies. The Inclusive Income Index shows India at the 62nd rank among emerging economies. India is much below China and Pakistan ranking 26 and 47 respectively.
