Thousands of protesters, on the evening of the 2nd of October took to the streets and protested for Hathras rape victim.

The protestors including politicians and other gathered at Jantar Mantar, demanding justice for the gang rape victim of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

In regard to this, the Delhi Police imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC,) which restricts any kind of assembly.

However, gathering is permitted at Jantar Mantar.

Initially the rally or protest was scheduled at India Gate, but later the Aam Aadmi Party changed the venue to Jantar Mantar.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is also likely to join the protest.

Besides, Mr. Kejriwal Communist Party Marxist (CPM) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Communist Party India (CPI) (Marxist) leader D. Raja already joined the protest.

Mr. Yechury said, “The UP Government has no right to stay in power. Our demand is that justice should be served.”

In addition, Chandrashekhar Azad, the Chief of the Bhim Army said,“I will visit Hathras. Our struggle will continue till the time UP CM doesn’t resign and justice is served. I urge the Supreme Court to take cognisance of the incident.”

Security has been tightened around the India Gate as the protests are in the vicinity.

Apart from the AAP, Bhim Army too had a scheduled protest at the India Gate on Friday. Instead of gathering at the India gate at 5pm, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad asked his supporters to assemble at Jantar Mantar. In a tweet, Mr. Azad said, “Like a dictator, the police has closed down the entire India Gate, showing dictatorship. But we will not let the demand for justice be weakened. Modi ji will have to answer.”

On the 14th of September, a 19 year old Dalit girl was brutally gang raped by four upper caste men. 

The incident took place in a village of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.  The rape victim died on the 29th of September at Safdarajang Hospital, Delhi.
