Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in over 80 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections 2022.

On the 10th of March, the Election Commission of India (ECI) started counting of votes at 8:00 A.M.  As per early trends of voting, the Arvind Kejriwal party is leading in 88 seats, and crossed the majority mark, which is 59 seats for the 117 Assembly seat elections.

Besides the AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in alliance with the former Punjab Chief Minister’s Amrinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Indian National Congress (INC) were also in the fray to contest the 2022 Punjab elections.

As of now, while the AAP is leading in 88 seats, the INC is leading in 14 seats, SAD is leading in 8 seats and the BJP is leading in 4 seats.  As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) source, the Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi is trailing from Chamkaur Sahib, the INC leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is also trailing from Amritsar against the AAP candidate Mr. Jeevan Jotbkaur.

It is to be noted, ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, which was held on the 20th of February, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, left no stone unturned to secure votes in Punjab.  He visited Punjab and its districts like Jalandhar, Moga, Amritsar, Bhatinda and other regions to campaign for the candidates of the AAP in Punjab.

If the AAP wins the Punjab Assembly elections, this would be its maiden victory with improved results compared to 2017 election results, in which the INC won and the AAP ended being second.
