On the 1st of April, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann moved a resolution seeking immediate transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government urged the Central Government to shift the union territory of Chandigarh into the State of Punjab.
In regard to this, the Punjab Chief Minister passed a resolution in the Punjab Assembly session on Friday. According to sources, this is not the first time, the Punjab Government demanded the inclusion of Chandigarh into Punjab. In the past also, the house has passed a number of resolutions urging the Central Government to do the same.
AAP Leader and Punjab CM said, “For maintaining harmony and taking the sentiments of people into account, this House once again recommends to the state government to raise the matter with Central Government to immediately transfer Chandigarh to Punjab.”
The one day special Assembly session comes days after Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah’s announcement that the central service rules will apply to employees of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. It is to be noted, Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.
Punjab Government organised a one day Assembly session on the 1st of April, where AAP Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) took the oath of office.
