On Tuesday, the famous advocate Ram Jethmalani had said that if Arvind Kejriwal cannot afford his fee, he will not charge the Delhi CM. Kejriwal approached Ram Jethmalani for defending his case against the defamation case charged by the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley in a Delhi Court. The Delhi CM tried to make the Aam Aadmi Party pay the advocate’s bill amounting to Rs. 3.8 crore.

Jethmalani, who was expelled from the BJP four years ago had said, “I will certainly defend him even if he can’t pay, but he said ‘no, I want to pay, send us the bills’, so I have sent (the) bills. If it is incumbent on me to support him and his livelihood I will support him, because he is a clean force as opposed to Arun Jaitley.”

The Finance Minister had filed this case against Kejriwal in 2015 for making baseless allegations of corruption leading to defamation. Both Arun Jaitley and Kejriwal have appeared in court regarding this issue. Mr. Jetmalani sent a bill of Rs. 1 crore for retainer ship and Rs. 22 lakhs for each defendant in the court. The CM’s deputy Manish Sisodia sent the signed bills to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. Baijal has approached the experts so as to attain a solution to this.

The AAP said that the government should pay the bills as they were addressed to the CM’s office and not the Aam Aadmi Party office or an individual in particular. The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, a lawyer by profession too sought Rs. 10 crores compensation for defamation. The AAP also claimed that Jethmalani had promised to fight the Delhi CM’s case for free and five months down the lane has started sending the bills.
