Ram Madhav, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 5th of October, announced the political leaders who were under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir, would soon be released.
Approximately 200 political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir were detained and kept under house arrest since the 5th of August, in the wake of Article 370 being scrapped in Jammu and Kashmir.
The official date when the leaders would be released is not yet announced. Ram Madhav addressed the ‘Jana Jagaran Sabha’ on the 4th of October.
He said once the Governor’s rule is lifted and legislature comes to power in the State, the political leaders would be released and they can resume their political activities in the State.
Ram Madhav said, “There is this propaganda that you have arrested thousands of people (in Jammu and Kashmir.) Let me tell you today that those 200 plus leaders are in preventive detention. Preventive detention is a normal law and order arrangement. It doesn’t amount to human rights violation. Preventive detention in five star hotels with good facilities with TVs and books and all those things is a temporary measure to ensure law and order in the State.”
On the 31st of October, the State Government will implement the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which will bifurcate the State into two union territories—Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
