On Sunday, at a toll gate 18 km from Udupi, on the Kochi-Mumbai Highway at Gundmi toll gate, a sleepy attendant swiped Rs. 4 lakh instead of Rs. 40 from a Doctor’s debit card. The incident happened at around 11:30 P.M., on Sunday.
The Mysuru Based doctor was traveling to Mumbai in a car along with his driver via the coast. The police identified this individual as Dr. Rao. After swiping, the attendant returned the card with slip to the doctor, who received a message of Rs. 4 Lakh being deducted instead of Rs. 40. He immediately brought this to the notice of the toll gate staff. The toll staff rejected the doctor’s claims even after two hours of persuasion by the doctor.
The doctor went to Kota, which is about 5 km from the toll gate and approached police officials at around 2 A.M., to file a complaint. The police escorted the accompanied the doctor to the toll booth, who then accepted their mistake and offered to reimburse the money through cheque. The doctor rejected this offer and asked for a full cash refund.
The higher officials were involved by this time who promised to reimburse the amount of Rs. 3,99,960 in cash by 4 A.M.
