On the 18th of February, Friday, Russian Embassy in India, welcomed the approach of the Indian Government in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine border issue.
The Russian Embassy took to Twitter and said, “We welcome #India’s balanced, principled and independent approach.”
Notably, on the 17th of February, during the United Nations Security Council, India said, “Quiet and constructive diplomacy” is the need of the hour and that any step that could escalate the tension should be avoided.” India’s Permanent Representative to the U.N., Security Council Mr. T.S. Tirumurti on Thursday pitched for immediate de-escalation of the situation.
Meanwhile on Thursday, Mr. Arindam Bagchix the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) addressed a media briefing and said, “India does not have any immediate plan to evacuate its citizens from Ukraine and its focus has been on ensuring their safety rather than on anything “larger.”
He further said, India has been supportive of an immediate deescalation of tensions and resolution of the crisis through sustained diplomatic dialogue.
Notably, Russian troops have been increasing at the Ukraine border for a month and despite warnings of war from the United States of America (U.S.A.,) the situation is getting worse with the possibility of a war in Ukraine. The major reason behind the situation is North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) which has members the U.S.A., the United Kingdom (U.K.,) and 26 other countries. Ukraine wants to be a member of NATO, which has been supported by the U.S.A., the U.K., France and others . The Russian Government does not want Ukraine to be a part of NATO, as it will expand the grouping at the Ukraine-Russia border. Another major reason is Crimea, as Russian believes if Ukraine becomes a NATO member, it would try to take back Crimea by military force.
