Today was supposed to be MP Sachin Tendulkar’s maiden speech in Parliament during the Winter Session. But thanks to disgruntled politicians the former Indian cricketer had to remain silent.
As soon as Sachin took the podium to speak the Congress politicians chanted “BJP sharam karo” (show some shame BJP.) This led to the Rajya Sabha being adjourned till 11 A.M., on Friday.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu made an attempt to control the situation. He was quoted saying, “You don’t want to respect a person with a legendary record in India, you do not respect sports. I’ll leave this to your better sense.”
The Vice President gave up trying to calm the furious crowd and adjourned the House. The Congress is refusing to let go of PM Modi’s comment that former PM Manmohan Singh was concluding with Pakistan.
This is the first time Sachin Tendulkar was given the chance to initiate a debate at the Rajya Sabha. He has been a Member of Parliament for the past five years and has one more year to complete his term.
