Dinakaran, Sasikala’s nephew, and AIADMK party deputy general secretary is contesting the RK Nagar by polls in Chennai on April 12. Dinakaran, who is contesting from the late J. Jayalalithaa’s constituency said that he is quite confident about winning the election.

The Parliamentary board of AIADMK, after being reconstituted, met at the headquarters of the party on Wednesday and unanimously decided to launch Dinakaran in RK Nagar. The seat fell vacant after the demise of Jayalalithaa as it was her home constituency. Dinakaran said, “I am proud to contest in the bypoll as the AIADMK candidate to continue the welfare measures initiated by Amma. It is my foremost responsibility for the next four years.” He also added that he would win the by polls with a margin of 50,000 votes with the support of the party candidates and also public.

Dinakaran also spoke about the probability of winning the constituency due to the split in the party. He said that they saw only DMK as a rival and not any members of it. He also ruled out any possibility of becoming chief minister after winning the elections. He quoted, “It’s a firm no. Edappadi K. Palaniswami is our chief minister. Due to certain actions of the then chief minister O. Panneerselvam, there was a demand to keep the party and government in one hand.”

He also expressed that there were differences in the party regarding its functions and elected representatives. He also said that most of them wanted Sasikala to take the reins if the party and government along with the CM post. Dinakaran said he would also request Vaiko’s DMDK, Congress and also BJP to support AIADMK in the by polls and tie up with those who accept the invitation.
