The Supreme Court (SC,) on the 20th of November, issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the bail plea of P. Chidambaram, the former Finance Minister of India.
A bench of judges, headed by Justice R. Banumathi, reviewed the bail petition of Chidambaram and ordered the ED to file a fresh affidavit pertaining to the INX Media case. Responding to the orders of the SC, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the ED, assured the affidavit would be filed by the 25th of November.
After being denied bail by the Delhi High Court on the 19th of November, Chidambaram’s lawyers filed a petition in the SC. Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde and other SC judges reviewed the petition.
P. Chidamabaram is alleged of laundering Rs. 305 crores. The ED registered a case against Chidambaram in 2017. Since 2017, the ED is probing the INX Media case.
As of now, P. Chidambaram is in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, Delhi. He was asked to remain in judicial custody for 90 days.
The next hearing regarding P. Chidambaram’s bail petition is scheduled to be held on the 26th of November.
