The Supreme Court decided to hear the plea of the convicted rapists in the Nirbhaya case in February. The four murderers challenged the verdict of death penalty that was passed in the 2012 Nirbhaya rape case. The parents of the victim called this decision of SC as a ‘travesty of justice’ and the amicus curiae as the ‘friends of convicts.’ The amicus curiae are impartial advisers to a court of law in the case.

In this regard, the parents of the victim spoke to MailToday, the father Badrinath Singh and mother Asha Devi said that the case shook the Nation and the decision to take to the streets about the case, has been almost forgotten.

The heartbroken mother speaking in Hindi said, “Amicus sirf ek tarfa bol raha hein (Amicus have been speaking only from one side).” She also added, “Jis tarah ke baat court mein ho raha hein aisa lag raha hein ki amicus accused ke taraf se hein (The way the amicus argued felt like he was defending the accused completely).” The parents also said that their daughter was denied justice after such a brutal crime and being killed with the acceptance to listen to the plea.

The amicus curiae in the court Raju Ramachandran and Sanjay Hegde refused to comment on the allegations and said if the parents were not believing them there is nothing the suo can do. The incident that happened in December 2012, united people of our Nation regardless of caste, creed and religion. And this decision of Supreme Court has drawn the anger of people.
