In a recent development, Mr. Anurag Thakur, the Union Sports Minister invited the protesting wrestlers for a meeting.

In a late night tweet, Mr. Anurag Thakur said that the Indian Government has invited India’s top protesting wrestlers to have a discussion on the ongoing pressing issue.  The tweet read, “The government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues.  I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same.”

The development came after the wrestlers met with Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.  However, the meeting with Mr. Amit Shah was inconclusive, as the wrestlers said they would continue their protest.

This is the second such high level meeting to be held soon with the Union Sports Minister.  Furthermore, Mr. Anurag Thakur, speaking at the convocation of the Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education in Gwalior, said, “Sports and sportspersons were a priority for the government.”  He further added, “The government has already formed a committee (to probe the allegations against Singh.)  The police are investigating the matter by registering an FIR.  A charge sheet will also be filed and fair investigation will be done.”

Meanwhile, the protesting wrestlers including Sakshi Mallikh, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and others resumed their duties and stopped their protest at Jantar Mantar.  However, they said they have not withdrawn from the protest and would continue their fight, demanding action against Mr. Brij  Bhushan Sharan Singh, the President of the Wrestlers Federation of India (WFI) and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP.)

Notably, female athletes and wrestlers accused Mr. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and demanded his arrest.
